Giancarlo Di Luggo and the New P Line: “Getting Used to Wonder”.

Giancarlo di Luggo talks about the genesis and objectives of the new Line P, designed by Stefano Pastrovich and presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024.

For the Fiart shipyard, the last few years have been marked by extraordinary growth, crowned by the presentation of the two new P52 and P58 models at the last Cannes Yachting Festival. This elegant, high-performance range represents a breakthrough in both design and performance. Conceived by designer Stefano Pastrovich, Fiart’s P range is the shipyard&#8217s flagship, and dazzled the French boat show public with its timeless elegance and impressive volumes, promising a cruising experience comparable to that of a superyacht. All of this is enhanced by fully in-house production, a distinctive feature of the shipyard. While we wait to share our sea trials of these two luxury yachts with Touslesbateaux readers, we had the opportunity to interview the Managing Director of FiartGiancarlo di Luggo.

Giancarlo di Luggo, what goals have you set yourself with the two new boats presented at Cannes?

The first objective was to approach a slightly different segment than Fiart&#8217s classic customers. We had already taken a step forward with the Seawalker range, which is aimed not just at families, but at any owner with a higher spending capacity, looking for a boat for day trips and short cruises. With the Line P, we have taken a further step towards this type of customer, and we are ready to meet their expectations thanks to careful construction quality and competitive delivery times. However, the most important objective is to maintain our ability to customize, while finding some stability and continuity. With the P line, we want to launch two or three boats on which we will work for a few years, making modifications and improvements”.

How did the collaboration with architect Stefano Pastrovich work out?”

“It went very well, we found a perfect relationship. After two years’ work, seeing our idea come to fruition was a real eye-opener. We achieved total harmony, thanks to a constructive exchange between different ideas, which never led to conflict. We&#8217re particularly pleased with the engineering achieved in certain decisions, and the very recognizable creative effort. The result is there before our eyes: the P52 and P58 are two boats profoundly different from everything else, not only at Fiart, but also among other shipyards”.

We’ve noticed that you have a very strong personal connection with these two boats. How does the fact that the owner of a yard is so involved in the design make a difference?

“It’s certainly a determining factor, not only for the shipyard owner, but also for the end customers. From a purely economic point of view, emotional involvement can sometimes be penalizing, as it can lead you to become infatuated with your idea and pursue choices that are too costly or outside the market. But on the other hand, when the owner of a boatyard puts his heart into it, I think you can feel it in the soul of the boat. What&#8217s more, it&#8217s not a given that those who build the boat know what they&#8217re talking about, what life is like on board, or what it&#8217s like to sail her. Sincerity of feeling makes the difference, and that’s obvious.

What are the next growth targets for Giancarlo di Luggo and Fiart? In which markets, in addition to Italy, would you like to expand?

With the Seawalker range, we’ve begun to open up in the United States, and that’s going well. I think the P line could also be introduced there in the future. But for the moment, our strategy with these two new boats is to focus on three specific locations: the Côte d’Azur, the Balearic Islands and Miami. These are three strategic locations, where we aim to achieve a good concentration of boats, so that people can get used to the wonder of seeing them.”
