Ghost of the Past: When the Past Won’t Leave You Alone

Ghost of the Past: When the Past Won’t Leave You AloneI think that I’m possibly the only woman alive who get’s visited by the ghost of boyfriends past constantly. Do you remember the movie Ghost of Girlfriends Past with Matthew McConaughey? He was visited by the ghost of past girlfriends in an attempt to show him the error of his ways. In my case, it’s not to show me the error of my ways but it does stand as a firm reminder of why it didn’t work out.

The first thing I’ve noticed is that when I run into an ex-flame it’s never at the right moment. I’m either with a group of women or I’m in my grocery shopping running to the store clothing. You know, the shorts, flip flops, t-shirt, and bandana. No make-up, nothing cute, just me looking a hot mess in comparison to what I normally look like. Why oh why can’t I run into an ex while strolling down the street with some Adonis locked on my arm.

Next, they seem to always want my current number, this is the point where I should say “No, but it was great seeing you” but as you probably guessed, I don’t. Why? Because of that natural emotion called curiosity. There’s something in my brain that naturally makes me nosey, I’m instantly attracted to what’s new in their life. When and if they call, I look at the screen on my phone wondering what the hell they want and of course I answer because hell I’m nosey.

I find that these people seek me out for various reasons. They either need someone to vent to, want to use me as an emotional scapegoat, or they want to talk about their current relationship problems; and let’s not forget sex! There are people out there who will turn an ex into a friend with benefits. I think not! There are also the ex’s who suffers from guilt because it didn’t work out or because they screwed up. People in my life should upgrade me not degrade me!

This brings me to one point; people rarely change when it comes to their views on relationships and dating. Whatever you dealt with previously, eventually resurfaces at some point. It’s becomes a never ending cycle of BS! You learn why things didn’t work out to begin with and you thank your lucky stars that it didn’t. One thing that I constantly keep in mind is that when things don’t work out it’s for very specific reasons. We all evolve at some point and when we do there are generally some people that we leave behind. I find that when the past won’t leave me alone it because I’m not done with the past. I welcome the past back into my life instead of not answering the phone or simply walking away and saying no. I have no one to blame but myself!
