Ghost Lit I Was Born EP CoverI always seem to go through phases when I listen to music. For weeks or months it will be Country. Then one morning I would wake up and just start listening to Pop. Lately the genre of music that seems to be catching my ear is Alternative. This genre is getting bigger and bigger and most acts in this genre do end up on the pop charts.

In my email one day I got sent this an EP called “I Was Born” by a group called Ghost Lit. I have to say whenever I get new music I hope that I do like them but there are a few times where I can’t even stand to listen five seconds of the material I was sent. This was not the case in this EP. I have to say I was really hooked after I heard the intro to the kick off song to the EP called “You Don’t Know Me”. The vocals on this song are kick ass and the whole song reminds me of the huge group called Monsters and Men. I have to say I really can’t get enough of this song. I think it’s because the lyrics really speak to everyone. I also love how when the verse is going on it’s softer and opening up to everyone on why this person doesn’t know them. Then when the chorus kicks in everything comes fast and hits you in the face with everything they got.

The other song that everyone needs to listen to is called “Belly”. This song has a male vocal for the lead that starts off the song and I feel like this was a great way to go. This song is also a little more intimate and raw then the other songs on this record. I can really see this song being used on a soundtrack to either a show or movie. I also like how the chorus is sung by the female vocals. The switch off between these two vocalists is done very well.

I Was Born” is only a five song EP and it leaves me wanting more from this group. When a musical act can leave me wanting more that means they are really going places and we will be seeing big and amazing things from them very shortly.

I am giving this EP a 4/5 stars.   You may ask if I loved the EP so much why I would be giving it that rating. Well there is one song on there I felt like didn’t fit.   This is a great EP for putting in your work playlist and get in the groove to get work done. So what are you waiting for?? Head over to iTunes right now and download your copy.
