Getting the Support You Need

By Healingyoga

These last few months have taught me a much-needed lesson in support. When one is embarking on new endeavors, making a lifestyle change, or undertaking just about any project, it's critical to establish a base of support so you can get to where you want to go with ease as opposed to struggle. Support, in my case, looks like better hydration, an earlier bedtime, blocking out 20-minute intervals for focused work, a yoga practice with more movement, meditation, and regular meetings with my partner and mentor. Could I get to the finish line without those things? Yes. But I can tell you that the trip would be an arduous one. Why not make my life easier by supporting myself with practices that will free up my energy and get me to my end result with ease and grace?

Ironically enough, meditation was a supportive practice that I needed to get more support around in order to maintain. When I noticed that my favorite meditation cushion was starting to get a wee bit uncomfortable (and result in my legs falling alseep), I decided it was time for a change. Luckily I found Moonleap out of the blue. Moonleap's tagline is meditation innovation and I have to agree that they've nailed it. I've been using a Moonleap Meditation Crescent Cushion for over a month now and I love it. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that my meditation posture has never been so effortless and comfortable. And my legs no longer fall asleep, which is a relief (after all, who likes that pins and needles sensation?).

The cushion is actually three pieces working in tandem to provide optimal comfort thanks to sciatic compression relief, even weight distribution, and support that encourages pelvic alignment. Thanks to the design of the cushion, one's weight is distributed evenly to the outer buttock and thighs. The cushion itself is smaller than it looks in the pictures, making it portable and perfect for anyone with a small space (I've devoted a corner of my bedroom to my practice, so I appreciate the cushion's small footprint). Although the cushion is small, it's more than cushion enough to be comfortable and effective.

The Meditation Crescent Cushion comes in a variety of lovely colors and each cushion comes with a bag of extra spelt husks so that you can adjust the cushion to your body's needs. The cushion retails for $185, which may sound high, but I assure you it's worth it. Right now, you can buy one of these cushions on the Moonleap web site for 25% off, bringing the price down to an affordable $139 plus shipping

I'm so grateful that I found Moonleap and their meditation mechanics genius, as I've often used discomfort as an excuse for not meditating in the past (yep, I'll use any excuse to justify my resistance). Bottomline: if you're looking to support yourself in your meditation practice, do it with the right seat.

In fact, support yourself in your own endeavors, whether that means taking regularly scheduled naps, getting bodywork, establishing an exercise regime, better nutrition, earlier bed times, supplements, or whatever will give you more energy and peace of mind and help you put your best foot forward.

Namaste!
