It has been seen that most of the car manufacturers send their vehicles to the market through a 6, 5 or 4 car hauler trailer. But how many of them know about the mechanism of the same? Frames
A trailer can be differentiated through its frame. The frame is actually a complete steel platform that holds the base of the vehicle. There are basically three types of frames – Box Tubing, Channel Iron and Angle Iron.

Tongue Length
Remember, longer tongue is always recommended as it is very helpful for steering the trailer. Shorter tongue creates lot of pressure on the ball while longer ones ease the pressure.

Coupler
Coupler is the part which attaches the trailer with the vehicle. It is the mechanism which is welded or bolted securely over the tow vehicle’s hitch ball.

Taillights
Taillights must be well protected or they will get damaged. Make sure that they are LEDs. They are bright, maintenance free, require very low power and last longer.

Wiring
Taillight wires pass through the frame at some point. Thus, be sure that there are grommets to protect the wires from short circuit or chafing on metal.

Axle
Beware of mobile home axles. How will you understand? Check if the wheel size is 14-1/2″. If it is so, then it’s probably a mobile home axle. These axles are too stiff and it often becomes difficult to find a replacement. The axle must always be attached with a suspension system and not merely welded.

Wheels and tires
Simply, pass up any trailer with 14.5″ wheels, it’s a sure sign of a mobile home axle. Instead, opt for 6 ply rated tires. Their sidewalls are thicker and have better capacity to carry heavy loads.

Fenders
Fenders should be strong enough because sooner or later someone is bound to stand on them. So make sure they can withstand it.

Welds
Check the welded components of the frame thoroughly. A good weld can be recognized with proper blend and consistency. Thus, if the welds look ugly, then it is a sign of a weak and degraded trailer.

These are the basic components of a car trailer. Having a fair idea about these parts will let you choose the perfect trailer in future for deliveries of vehicles.
