Get Involved With… The Chain by Adrian McKinty

Posted on the 24 September 2020 by Booksocial

Our Book Of The Month for September is The Chain by Adrian McKinty. For our online Book Clubbers we have some questions below for you to get involved with. Either answer in the comments section or use as discussion points at your next Book Club. If you haven’t read the book check out our Lowdown all about it here.

The Chain – The Blurb

YOUR PHONE RINGS.

A STRANGER HAS KIDNAPPED YOUR CHILD.

TO FREE THEM YOU MUST ABDUCT SOMEONE ELSE’S CHILD.

YOUR CHILD WILL BE RELEASED WHEN YOUR VICTIM’S PARENTS KIDNAP ANOTHER CHILD.

IF ANY OF THESE THINGS DON’T HAPPEN:
YOUR CHILD WILL BE KILLED.

VICTIM. SURVIVOR. ABDUCTOR. CRIMINAL.
YOU WILL BECOME EACH ONE.

YOU ARE NOW PART OF THE CHAIN

Discussion Points

The following are written with the presumption you have read The Chain. If you haven’t, bookmark the post and come back to answer the questions later.

  1. Our last book of the month was all about Greek myths and legends, a theme that is picked up in The Chain via the use of Ariadne and Theseus. Are you familiar with the story of this couple? How is it similar to that of The Chain?
  2. The book questions how far you would go to protect your child. Would you kidnap a child? Watch them die? Kill someone? The worst part for me was reading about Ameila in anaphylactic shock, watching her suffer seemed somehow worse than the thought of instantaneous death for her. Which act did you feel most uncomfortable with?
  3. Why do you think there was no animosity from Marty when Pete, his brother, starts dating Rachel, his ex wife?
  4. At what point did you guess Ginger was behind The Chain?
  5. The book is split into two very distinct parts, which part did you prefer and why?
  6. Do you think Rachel is pregnant at the end of the book?
