Garth Brooks sure knows how to build up hype and then make an announcement that still leaves fans with more questions than answers.

Of course we are referring to today’s big announcement that was pre-hyped by a cryptic message on his website that simply said “The Wait is Over 7/7″  on July 7 the messaged changed to announce that there would be a live streamed press-conference on his website on July 10 (today) at noon.

The day finally arrives and, I’m certain thousands perhaps even hundreds of thousands of, fans worldwide stream to GarthBrooks.com to hear the news that’s been hyped up for months only to be left with more questions than answers.

So lets break down what the big news was.

  • Garth Brooks is going on a 2-3 year world tour….ok we knew that at Christmas time so that’s nothing new, no new dates announced but we know that on my 40th birthday (Monday) the first date of the tour will be made public
  • The only big announcement that did come today that, we figured, was inevitable was the fact that starting in about a week all of your favorite Garth Brooks music will be available digitally…only not on iTunes but rather via GarthBrooks.com
  • Garth also announced a new record deal with Sony Records Nashville and a new album (a double album “because there’s a lot to say”) which will be released on Pearl Records and RCA  Nashville, possibly around Black Friday (November 28).    The album will feature mainly songs written by other songwriters because, as Garth says “the songs I’m getting pitched are way better than what I’ve been coming up with”.  One of the songs on the new album “that might very well have taken the place of ‘The Dance’ for me as my favorite Garth Brooks song ever,” he said.

As for Ireland, well Garth has, reportedly, told his staff that if there is a chance of saving all 5 shows he plans to move ahead with them.  It is widely believed that government staff in Ireland is actively working on a resolution to ensure that the concerts can be resume as planned.

So there you have it.  Here’s hoping that on Monday we find out a little bit more information on the much hyped World Tour.  Some actual dates and venues would be nice, the full first leg and on-sale dates would be even nicer.  I guess we’ll all have to wait together.
