I apologize for the unintended hiatus this past week or so. There was just a lot going on. I am back at it now, I promise!
As I had hoped, my chives, oregano, buttercrunch lettuce and third set of onions have all finally made their appearances, and all are doing pretty fantastic. Now I am just waiting on the parsley (we will get to this later). If the parsley hasn’t sprouted by this weekend it will be replanted, I didn’t check on the garden for most of this week as I was laid up with a pretty nasty summer cold, but I got out there on Thursday evening and was very pleasantly surprised to see all that had happened while I was too sick to tend to it all. It’s reassuring to know for sure that my seeds are okay and I am feeling much better about this growing season now.

Tomato will come soon, hopefully this weekend. We need to get some more soil as well as it would appear we used a wee bit more than expected. This means I actually had absolutely no concept of how much dirt I actually use in the garden! Once the tomato is in though, the garden for the 2013 season will be complete.
Parsley…as I mentioned it hasn’t sprouted yet. I previously posted about my sage having sprouted already. I honestly thing that my sage may actually be the parsley! It’s grown some and it is definitely not resembling the sage I had last year at all. It looks much more like parsley! I guess it is time to switch my labels and wait for my sage to sprout now. I do recall it taking quite a long time as well last year, and in that case it would make sense that I haven’t seen any seedlings yet.

With the greenery on the balcony comes some familiar issues – specifically, the squirrels have returned to terrorize us. They dug up the romaine lettuce already. Luckily I seem to have been able to save about four plants so we should still have a crop! Hopefully the squirrels don’t end up getting into anything else. I’m sure I will be testing out some possible solutions throughout the season to prevent this. I am so excited to watch things grow!
