Essential ingredients for an outstanding wedding
This could be the Holy Grail of all possible wedding day questions. The answer could easily send us off in a number of directions.
Our first time shooting as Gaddens Manor Wedding Photographers, so maybe a great location is part of it?…. It certainly helps, but it’s not that high on our list and not the ‘one pivotal thing’. Aesthetics assist in may things, creatively in pictures and pleasant for the guests, but we are still cold and off target.
So ok, maybe its details such as good food & drink, flowers, decor, theme, entertainment or fine weather?
Still cold. Very cold. Don’t get me wrong – the details have there own place, they are important. They reflect the care and attention that couples wish to share with valued friends and family. Some items, considering the thought behind them have resonated with me in the past as I am sure they do with family & guests. By and large though, they do not share the weight and soul, we see and like to capture within the wedding day environment.
The Essential Ingredients for an outstanding wedding, emanate from people. The Bride, the Groom, family and others in and around that celebration
Gaddens Manor Wedding Photographers
Capturing the soulfulness of Stacey & Justin’s day as Gaddens Manor Wedding Photographers, we were lucky to witness several aspects that to us, as well as the couple, spoke LOUDLY.
These moments, reflecting the uniqueness in their relationship, having that all those ‘essential ingredients for an outstanding wedding’.
None were scripted, all were freely offered forward, being a reflection of themselves. Nothing suggested by a wedding magazine as a must have. None had to happen at a designated time (apart from the ceremony of course).
Human nature, emotion & love…. is free spirited. It knows no bounds. Catching this within moments of timeless photography, it keeps us on our toes and delivers us with an amazing buzz of excitement.
Capturing the uniqueness within people is our drug. Every couple is different, so our ‘list’ of possibilities is limitless, likewise, so too is the creative photographic opportunity.
So what made their day unique?
Ever since Stacey had signed me up to cover her wedding day, I had sensed that she had done her homework. She knew exactly what she wanted, knowing my style, what type I shot I like to capture. Her vision for the day aligning perfectly with my own photographic approach.
So picture the scene, midway through Bridal preparations, make up done and hair underway. I happened to mention “It’s a bit quiet in here, anyone got some music to play?” Out comes the ipod and a playlist made by Justin to be played that morning.
A track from ‘The Wedding Singer’ strikes up, and within seconds, Stacey is in floods of tears!
My documentary photography ethics were now heavily in question here. Where do I stand now? ‘No undue influence from the photographer upon the day’?
I nipped upstairs to ask the Make Up Artist, if she was here all day. NO, was the answer. “Well I think you may be needed” I replied.
A precious sentimental moment, captured, ‘documented’a real gem and a early gift for more that were to follow.
A church ceremony with soul
Moving onto their church ceremony, there were more gifts offered. Great beaming smiles throughout, plenty of laughter and tender moments. But into the mix we had a vicar with presence and attitude.
A bit of free styling with the congregation, passing the microphone around during his sermon asking those married couples ‘The secret of their long marriages’.
Great unscripted moments, involving the family & guests. I hadn’t seen it done this way before – it was inspiring. Weddings are about the community, sharing and supporting the new couple.
Unlike some I have seen the ceremony had reverence and soul. Far from traditional, conservative and scripted.
The flow continued….
Back at Gaddens Manor the relaxed, personable atmosphere continued. Natural free flowing wedding breakfast speeches, reception and party all being a true reflection of this couple. It was uniquely them. A pleasure to see, to feel and to capture.

Who asked for music to be played? The Groom’s playlist was enough to get the tears flowing!
