Hey guys! Greetings from Paradise, CA! Literally. That’s what the town that Max’s parent’s live in is called.
We ran the Frost to Fog 5K this morning!!
We got into Paradise last night around 11:30pm, so we went straight to bed for some pre-run beauty sleep.
The 5k started this morning at 9pm and we had to drive into Chico, which was about 30 minutes away. I prepped for the race by eating 2 slices of Udi’s whole grain bread with chunky peanut butter smeared on top.
This morning I was NOT feeling the race. It looked so cold outside and I normally do my running in the afternoons. The idea of running so early did not sound appealing!
I get the greatest race numbers! 111.
Max, Max’s Dad Randy and I all hit the road at 10 ‘til 8. Randy and I ran the 5k while Max was a beast and ran the Quarter Marathon, 6.55 miles.
The race route was super pretty. We even finished the race by running over that bridge! I wasn’t prepared for so much “off roading” but luckily the route was on pretty worn trails when it wasn’t on the road.
So I turned on my Garmin 5 minutes before the race started and it said Low Battery! Gah. I ended up running the entire thing info-less. And it kinda messed me up. The race was an out and back route so I naturally figured we’d be turning around at the half way mark. When I turned around I started to slow down because I was crazy out of breath from the higher altitude and I thought if this is only half way, there is NO WAY I’ll make it in without stopping. So I slowed down and didn’t push myself too hard. Little did I know there was only 3/4 of a mile left!! When I heard the crowds cheering we were literally at the bridge.
I finished the race in 29:30 which means my splits were around 9:50 average. I know my first mile or two had to have been under 9:30 because my last mile was crazy slow. And guess what?!?!
I finished 4th in the 18-24 age group!!!! Gah. I probably could have placed had I had my Garmin to tell me that the turn around wasn’t at the 1/2 way mark.
Max finished his 6.55 miles in 49:10 which means he was a BEAST and ran 7:30 minute miles!!!
The race was sponsored by Lundberg so there were a bunch of flavors of these Organic Rice Chips and rice cakes. I snagged 2 bags of these cracked black pepper ones. Holy YUM!! I should not have opened them right after running my guts out!
I ate them like I was a Mad Woman!!
Max’s Dad ran the race with a bunch of people he works with so there was a big brunch waiting for all the runners back at the house.
I started with orange juice and finished with………
Fruit salad, clementines, country potatoes with lots of ketchup, and veggie scrambled eggs. There were also home made cinnamon rolls, homemade coffee cake and egg casserole but I didn’t have any.
Well we’re all laying pretty low this afternoon. I know a few of us have taken naps and now there’s whispers of going wine tasting at a couple local wineries.
I hope you are all having a great weekend!!
Tell me about you!! I want to know……
When was the last time you surprised yourself?
when I got 4th in a distance race!!
What is your favorite kind of wine?
I like whites!
