100 years of Disney Magic came to life on the ice at Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday evening. My family and I were graciously invited to experience Disney On Ice's Passport to Adventure and we would not be disappointed.
Our hosts for the evening were Mickey and Minnie Mouse and their friends Donald Duck and Pluto. Together we would spend the next several hours on an adventure that would take us from Africa all the way to Arendelle with a few stops in between.
Our first stop was on the mighty plains of Africa where we met Rafiki the wise old shaman from the Lion King. Rafiki introduced us to Simba and Nala and together we joined Simba on his journey from cub to full grown lion.
Next stop on the tour was early 1900's England where we visited the home of George and Mary Darling and their children Wendy, John and Michael. Wendy was telling the boys a story about Peter Pan when who should visit but Peter Pan himself, and Tinkerbell, of course.
The children joined Peter and Tink on a journey to Neverland where they met the Lost Boys and faced off against the evil Captain Hook and his sidekick Mr. Smee before returning to relieved parents in England.
From England our journey went eastward to just off the coast of Denmark and far under the sea where we met Sebastian the crab, Flounder and, the Little Mermaid herself, Ariel. Ariel was a curious mermaid who always wanted to go where the people are, especially after catching a glimpse of Prince Eric one night.
Ariel is convinced to visit the evil octopus Ursula who tricks her into giving up her voice to become human for three days. If Ariel doesn't receive the kiss of true love within three days she'll go back to being a mermaid and become Ursula's slave, but if she does succeed she would remain human forever. I don't need to tell you how this story ends, if you don't know you'll have to go and see for yourself.
As we near the end of our journey we head north to Norway to a kingdom called Arendelle where we meet two sisters, Elsa and Anna. We arrive in Arendelle shortly after Elsa's coronation as Queen of Arendelle. At the celebration Anna falls in love with Prince Hans of the Southern Isles.
When Hans proposes to Anna, Elsa objects, unleashing her powers before the court. Elsa flees the kingdom and Anna sets off after her on what would become a magical adventure where she would meet Olaf (the snowman) and Kristoff.
This sets off one of the most spectacular performances of "Let it Go" I have ever seen, Disney on Ice was the perfect venue for Frozen to be performed live and it was a fitting way to end our Passport to Adventure.
You too can get your Passport to Adventure with Disney On Ice this weekend, and I strongly recommend this for families looking for something to do this weekend, Disney on Ice will have you singing and dancing for the entire show and leave you with a smile on your face for the rest of the weekend.
