Frog in Love – Book Review

“Hello Frog,” said Piglet. “You don’t look very well. What’s the matter with you?”
“I don’t know,” said Frog. “I feel like laughing and crying at the same time. And there’s something going thump-thump inside me, here.”

Frog in Love by Max Velthuijs is the story of Frog, who  is worried and he  feels like crying and laughing at the same time. He is getting hot and cold, and  his heart is pounding and racing. Could he be in love?

Frog is very excited that he is in love. He  tells Piglet, who asks him, “Who are you in love with?” Hmm, Frog had not thought about that question and after a short reflection he says that he is in love with a “pretty, nice, lovely white duck.”

Can a frog be in love with a white duck? Piglet says that he cannot but Frog is  in love and ignores Piglet.

Impressing someone is a great way to get noticed and Frog leaves presents for Duck. But he is too shy to talk to Duck. So he decides to impress Duck  by breaking the world high jump record. Of course, things do not go according to plan or maybe in a way they do since  Duck comes into Frog’s life.

This book is a great introduction to talk about love with young children.

  • Who do you love?
