The former owner of a takeaway restaurant in the Milton Keynes town of Bletchley has been fined a whopping £4,000 in a local Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to breaching food hygiene regulations.
Mr Mohammad Rashid, who formerly owned the Tasty Fried Chicken restaurant, was prosecuted after officers from the council’s environmental health team visited the premises and found a number of problems.
During the visit, which was prompted by a complaint, officers found that the standard of cleanliness throughout the premises was “extremely poor”. It was obvious that owners and staff either had no food hygiene training or were neglecting their responsibilities.
At Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court, Mr Rashid was fined £4,000 and ordered to pay nearly £2,000 more in court costs. He has since sold the business and it has been confirmed that the new owner of the restaurant is complying with all food hygiene regulations.
Commenting on the case, the council’s Karen Ford said:
“Despite numerous warnings the council had no choice but to take action in this case.
“We will always act quickly when we believe there is a serious risk to public health and in this case we had no choice.”
