Four Upcoming Comic Book Films All Fans Should See

Marvel completely revolutionized the world of comic book films with The Avengers, which brought together major characters from the comic book world, including Iron Man and Captain America. While competitor DC struggled a bit over the years, the comic book company did have a few hits with the Batman films directed by Christopher Nolan. Both Marvel and DC announced plans in the last year to release at least one new film every year between 2016 and 2022. Find out now which upcoming comic book films you can look forward to seeing in theaters.

Captain America: Civil War

Set for release in 2016, Captain America: Civil War brings the iconic comic book story of the same name to the big screen. The film will include some classic characters seen in other films like Scarlet Witch and Iron Man as well as some new characters like Black Panther. In the film, the government decides to make all superheroes register with the government. It will pit a team led by Captain America against a second team led by Iron Man. Both sides have their own ideas about whether or not to register.

X-Men Apocalypse

Also set for release in 2016 is X-Men Apocalypse, which takes place in the 1980s and features a cast of characters from previous X-Men films and some new characters. Jennifer Lawrence will reprise her role as the villain Mystique, and fans will finally see James McAvoy rock the iconic bald head of legendary teacher Professor Xavier. When the studio released the first trailer for the film, it became one of the most watched videos on YouTube. After seeing this one on the big screen, you’ll want to add lots of X-Men merchandise to your online shopping carts.

Suicide Squad

Have you ever wondered how the villains Batman captured kept getting out of prison and coming after him again? The upcoming Suicide Squad has the answer. The film focuses on DC villains like Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc and Deadshot. Each of those characters gets a second chance at life after signing up to help a villainous underground organization. Every time they agree to help on a mission, they receive time off their sentences. The film features Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie in big name roles. It comes out a few months after Batman vs. Superman.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

The original Guardians of the Galaxy film introduced the world to a lesser known comic book series that took place in space in the future. That film became one of the top grossing films of the year, made Chris Pratt a household name and inspired the upcoming sequel. Though the studio remains mum on plot details, most fans expect the movie to feature main character Star Lord’s father and have a few cameos from other Marvel characters too.

As a comic book fan, you can look forward to some great films coming out over the next few years.
