For The Love of Stationary

By Cleverbuttons @cleverbuttons

Hi All,

I have a little confession to make; along with the fact that I am penning a novel by hand, I also have a ridiculous obsession with stationary. There you go I have said it. Along with this is my desire to keep the world healthy from choosing eco-friendly fashion through to making sure that I reduce my own, personal carbon footprint. So I have been thinking recently about how we can move forward and heal the world in what little ways that we can. Whether you choose to go to a stationers that offer green products, or you want to upcycle your current pen pots, there are many small changes you can make that can ultimately save the environment. Here are some top tips for choosing the best eco-friendly components for your home today.

Note Books and Pads

One of the things I rely on more than anything else is a solid note book and pen, let’s face it I am a writer at the end of the day. For me, there are two forms of notebooks; I have a penchant for ethically sourced leather bound ones for specific purposes and the everyday ones. I like fashionable or fun looking ones too, the brighter the better for me as long as they are made from recycled paper.

Firstly I headed to The Green Office  to check out their collection of paper and notebooks, two of the most important items for me. I love a Cambridge style journal and the size of this one is perfect for my handbag; you never know when inspiration will grasp you.  I always opt for elastic fastenings for loose notelets and to keep the papers in place when working outside. Plus look at the fun colours it’s available in!

Feminine Stationary holders

One issue that I have is that I always end up losing my favorite pens, pencils and more often than not…the scissors. For my ultimate green home office I need to get myself some pen pots that are not only functional but stylish too! As you will all know from previous posts, I am a handmade home fan but never seem to have the time to make my own items; real life always seems to get in the way. So I have searched to find some handmade pen pots that fit into my vintage home as well as my heart. There are many to be sourced out there, such as these beauties, with hand painted, romantic style birds on them. These will work perfectly on my window sill especially when the winter sun starts to poor in.

The Desk

Finally, I need a new desk or at least I want a new desk. Now the ultimate dream would be to have a drift wood inspired desk, at least then I would feel like I am near the sea, but driftwood is not the best material to be making a sturdy desk from. So I have turned to Pinterest for my inspiration and let’s face it, it is full of images of the quirky and ultimately unusual. It was from here that I found this upcycled number that I must have in my home!

The cast iron legs will work perfectly with my obsession with duck egg blue – a nice urban contrast to a country cottage style room. Then you have the recycled wooden top, plain, simple and chic.
