#food Smashing Food, Not Smashing Plates at Parthenonas

To celebrate the anniversary of my brothers birth, it happens this time every year and as fans of food we tend to mark it with a meal out. This time it was Greek. Parthenonas is a restaurant that I have been passed for years but it has always sat in the middle of London Road unassuming. Places that stick around for some time generally do for a reason, whether than is down to quality or price, reputations aren't built overnight.
It is only a small place and for a Friday night all the tables weren't all full but there was a nice vibe in there. The staff were friendly and we ordered some Greek beer before mulling over the menu. It was a tough choice but I don't regret the starter, meatballs. It arrived, I was blown back by the portion size, three almost-tennis-ball sized beef balls, rice and a slightly spicy tomato sauce. Every mouthful was delicious. The plate consumed quickly.

Once that had sunk in nicely the mains arrived, I kind of regretted my choice this time, not for the taste or anything but it shared a tomato-y sauce similarity to my starters. It was still mega yum, the lamb fell easily apart, the roast potatoes offered texture whilst the veg felt fresh, the only stumbling path was the amount! I was beaten before I had began, it was a mountain of meat, normally I can eat until there was nothing left but after polishing off the starter with ease this was tricky. No complaints, at all, I would have been happy calling it quits with the meatballs.

The meal was completed with a cup of tea and a shot of ouzo. All of this for £7.50 with a Living Social voucher, I'll be going back again, and happy to pay full price, which is also very reasonable.
