Food Hygiene Standards “good” at St Ives Restaurants

According to the latest ratings from the Food Standards Agency (FSA), food businesses and restaurants in the St Ives and Carbis Bay are performing very well.

Of the 120 restaurants, cafes and takeaways that were visited in FSA inspections over the last year, 58 were given the top rating of five stars, meaning that food hygiene at these businesses is “very good”. A further 36 received four-star “good” ratings.

At the other end of the scale, a total of three businesses were told that major improvements were needed, by being awarded just one star. Just one eatery achieved no stars, meaning that urgent improvements in food hygiene standards, including food hygiene training, are needed.

Of these poorly performing businesses, some of the main issues included poor record-keeping and poor food safety management systems. Cleanliness, staffing and food safety awareness training are also important factors in an FSA inspection. Some of the lowest rated businesses are already reported to have made the required changes to food hygiene standards and are demanding that FSA offices come back to carry out another inspection. Hopefully, the area can soon claim it has no zero or one starred food businesses.
