Happy Saturday Lovelies. I hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas, filled with love, gifts and of course food. I'm pretty sure that given the copious amounts of food and drink you've probably consumed this holiday, jumbo burgers and milkshakes are the last thing on your mind but then again if you're anything like me... probably not! So here's my review of my recent trip to lunch at the Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Brunswick.
I went along with my photographer friend Abi around early lunch time and thankfully it was still a bit quite then but by the time we finished over an hour later there was a queue past the entrance doors. I had previously been to the GBK in Clink Street, SE1, so on arrival I was very confident in my ordering prospects. I ordered the Taxi Driver beef burger (American cheese, onion ring, Cajun relish, smoked chilli mayo, dill pickle, salad, brioche bun), sweet potato fries, onion rings and a peanut butter milkshake. I also decided to get the Mighty beef burger (Two 6oz patties, mature Cheddar, crispy bacon, garlic mayo, relish, dill pickle, salad) and go halves with Abi. It probably all sounds like alot but this is pretty standard for me, all with minimal damage to my lipstick (hash tag I'm a pro).
The taxidriver burger, sweet potato fries and onion rings were all as good as I remembered, all quite rich in flavor and filling but 'The Mighty' was sadly quite dry. It could have been the abundance of beef all bundled in without the right amount of sauce to compliment each bite or just the fact that compared to 'The Taxidriver', it wasn't as moist but the result reminded me why I can be such a stickler for repetition when it comes to food that I know and love, although I will always be an adventurer.
The staff at the Brunswick branch seemed so uninspired, it was disappointing. They got our orders wrong a few times, one staff even put down an oreo milkshake and saying it was peanut butter. My expert eye could clearly see the difference before it was even touched and on mentioning the mistake to the staff was told "no it's peanut butter", obviously he eventually acknowledged his mistake after much debate and correction from the chef. If not for my previous experience at GBK and the promise of good food, I would not have even stayed past the food ordering but the service at the Clink street branch was 10/10 that I decided to overlook the faults and simply enjoy the food, which in the end is always what it comes down to. Enjoy! TL. Xx
