Fleet Tracking Improves Driver Safety & Compliance for Excavating Firm

Morrison Excavating, a family-owned business based in Quarryville, PA, is devoted to providing the best value to their customers by providing quality workmanship and excellent service. The 30-year-old company provides a variety of services to residential, commercial, and agricultural customers in northern Maryland and southeastern Pennsylvania. Company president Blake Huber strives to provide these services at a competitive price, despite economically trying times. Morrison Excavating also works closely with nearby charities, such as Habitat for Humanity and Homes for Hope, to support the community.

With the widespread services that the company provides, it is necessary that Huber’s team is well-coordinated. However, that wasn’t always the case. “We’ve had some inefficiency in getting to job sites,” he explains. “We’d get there and it would be cancelled, so we’d have to backtrack from the site and the guys would get lost on their way to the next job site.”

Needing to get rid of these inefficiencies, Huber turned to the Fleetmatics fleet tracking solution. Once installed on the company’s 27 fleet vehicles, Fleetmatics was able to integrate easily with the company’s existing Garmin units. Huber used to print out a Google map and directions for the drivers so they would know where to go. “If the job was cancelled or the customer wasn’t ready, it was hard to re-route them to another job,” he says. “It just wasn’t possible to manage it efficiently.” With Garmin integration with Fleetmatics, every fleet driver can automatically have all of the day’s jobs flagged on the vehicle’s Garmin unit.
