Sometimes we get so caught up in our lives that we don’t notice the simple beauty surrounding us. This wasn’t exactly a secret garden – it was a little patch of land located right on one of the busiest streets of LA. I drive by it almost every week without bothering to look. It wasn’t until I was stuck in some incredible bumper to bumper traffic two weeks ago that I noticed the rose bushes and other flora around me.
Rose gardens always remind me of The Little Prince and his devoted love for his single rose. That story itself is also a reminder to appreciate the little things in life. The usual frustrations and exasperation that goes hand in hand with LA traffic faded away as I noticed God saying hello to me in His subtle ways.
I returned here on Easter Sunday to take advantage of the flowers in full bloom. Spring is so beautiful, don’t you agree? I found this white lace Free People dress on clearance at Nordstrom Rack and couldn’t put it down. For only $35, it was a steal! There was only one left in my size and it was hidden away in the wrong section! I love love love the iron pleats combined with the lace overlay. The ladies of Downtown Abbey would be proud…err…if they lived in modern times and above-the-knees dresses were socially acceptable. This dress is the essence of girly-girl, and I wore it proudly.
Did you guys notice my funky purse shaped like a fish in the picture above? It’s one of those accessories that aren’t exactly “pretty” on its own (my sisters don’t like it at all), but for some reason I love the character it adds. My aunt sent it over from Vietnam. I don’t know why I felt compelled to wear it with this dress – it totally doesn’t match. But there it is, its debut on Mod31.
Do you guys ever walk past beauty and not recognize it until someone points it out to you? The world is a gorgeous place. We just need to slow down and look.
