FIDLAR have quickly gained a reputation as indie rock’s party band du jour thanks to their hit song “Cheap Beer,” as well as its riotous accompanying video. FIDLAR is actually an acronym for “fuck it, dog, life’s a risk,” which is wholly appropriate for a band whose barely intelligible lyrics shriek out tales that involve lines of speed, an over-abundance of weed, and quickie drug runs to Mexico– in other words, L.A. living at its finest. “Cheap Beer” is loud, fun, and tolerable enough, but can the schtick last? I guess as long as kids are drinking cheap beer– which, I’d assume, will be forever– FIDLAR have got something to sing about.
