Last week of the month can only mean one thing. Pay day. I have spent a lot more money than I probably should've over the past month, playing for trips away, graduation preparations, festivals, that sort of thing. So much so that a lot of the basic things I would normally buy with my leftover cash, have gone unfulfilled.
This month however, when I got paid, I was straight online shopping for all of the things I've wanted, but haven't been able to get, this past month!
First on the list, make up.
I'm not normally known to branch out with my makeup, both brand-wise, and technique-wise, but I thought I'd take the plunge.
I normally buy my makeup on the high street, but have been wanting to try out Feel Unique for quite some time, as who doesn't love a service that completely limits your human contact?
UnboxingI've been after a good primer for a while, and this Benefit Stay Flawless 15-hour Primer has been recommended to me a number of times. A bit pricey at £24.50, but for the amount you get, it looks like it could last a lifetime.
I'm normally a bit of a recluse when it comes to foundation, and I stick religiously with Maxfactor Lasting Performance. I have really very greasy and oily skin, so light foundation just comes straight off. I normally apply a thicker foundation, then add a powder, but this L'Oreal Paris True Match Powder Foundation is essentially a foundation, bronzer and powder all rolled into one. And at £12.75, it's only an extra £2 odd more than my regular foundation.
I am the laziest person in the world when it comes to eyebrows. I haven't had them plucked or shaped for a good two years. Luckily, with my light hair, I can get away with it... I think?
I bought this Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in an attempt to continue along the same level of laziness, as now I can merely colour in and brush away the strays as opposed to paying someone to properly sort them out.
I didn't learn how to put on eyeliner until the age of 21, and I'm still relatively new to it. I've always had really small eyes, and I always thought that by accentuating them, they'd end up looking even smaller, so I've always steered clear.
However, last year I bought my very very first eyeliner! The Barry M Waterproof Gel Eyeliner. It worked relatively well for the first few uses, but waterproof is not true at all. Not by a long shot. It's not even smudge-proof. So today I splashed out for a decent one, and opted for the Maybelline LineRefine Liner Express.
Mascara is by far my favourite beauty product. Going back to the statement about my eyes being small, they appear to be pretty much non-existent without mascara!
Mascara is something I'm willing to branch out on. I have going through hundreds and hundreds of different mascaras just to try them out, so next on the list is Benefit's They're Real mascara.
I'm not a massive lipstick fan, either. (I'm really not very good at being a girl to be honest). Nevertheless, I took the plunge and bought my first proper one... as in, one that hasn't been gifted to me.
I'm not entirely sure what colours suit my complexion, but I dived in anyway and just picked a nice pale pinky coral shade, as I didn't want to go too bright to begin with!
ApplicationI didn't have any issues with the primer, rolled straight onto my skin without an issue. However, I won't know how well it's worked for another 10 hours or so!
The foundation was gorgeous. You tip the bottle upside down to move the powder around, take the lid off, take the brush off, and turn the brush over and rub it in.
The powder rolls straight onto the skin with minimal effort, and didn't make a mess at all, which is impressive considering how bad I am at using powder!
It is currently sitting beautifully on my skin. Normally I have to wait a few minutes after applying liquid foundation, then add powder, but this is really all I've needed to use.
It's incredibly lightweight, and my skin feels incredible as well.
As I said prior, I am horrendous at eyeliner at the minute. I'm sure with more practise, I will improve, but for now, that's all it is, practise.
I went for the standard thick top and cat flick, and the product was incredibly easy to use. My last one smudged very easily and didn't sit very well on the skin, needing a good two or three layers for it to actually look black, but this one is fantastic.
The mascara sat beautifully as well. The brush provided was perfect. Normally I have to switch and swap brushes from mascara to mascara because they don't apply very well, but this one worked wonders.
Finally, the Rimmel Kate lipstick. I'm never capable of keeping anything on my lips for more than 5 minutes without smudging it with my hands, arms, with drinks, food, or even putting pens in my mouth! But this one has lasted a good 4 hours now without budging, and even more impressively, without me getting sick of it and rubbing it off.
Excuse the horrendously chipped nails, I will be sorting that out next!
