The Road Hammers MUD
For the last week, or so, The Road Hammers have been a fairly common name on this site. They not only became the first contenders, along with Blake Shelton, in our new Sound Off poll, they also became the first (and second) winners of the poll with their newest video MUD. As we speak The Road Hammers are dominating Round 3 of the poll and since it’s also the official release day of MUD on iTunes we figured they’d be a fitting feature artist.
The Road Hammers were founded 10 years ago by Jason McCoy, Clayton Bellamy and Chris Byrne. The concept was to form a band that played trucker music & Southern Rock and in 2005, when the group released their debut, self titled album, the idea proved to be golden. The album ‘The Road Hammers’ debuted at #1 on the Canadian Country Albums chart, produced four top 10 singles and earned the group six CCMA nominations, they won Group/Duo of the year, as well as a Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year. The success continued into 2006 with two more CCMA awards, Group or Duo of the Year and Best Video (for “East Bound And Down“)
Since 2006 two more albums would be released, one through their Canadian label Open Road Recordings (The Road Hammers II 2009) and one through a US Label Montage Music Group (Blood Sweat & Steel 2008). Both albums had moderate success with their first single from ‘II’, Homegrown, reaching the Top 20 on the Canadian Country singles charts and their US release, ‘Blood Sweat & Steel’, cracked the top 50 on the US Country Albums Chart.
The group disbanded after one last show in December 2010 but in mid 2013 the group reunited and in October they released “Get On Down the Road” which to date is their most successful single ever peaking at 12 on the Canadian Country Chart (it currently remains in the top 20 at 18). Last week the group released the video for “MUD” and today marks the official release of the digital single on iTunes.
The Road Hammers will be out on the road this summer at various festivals and events including a stop at Boots and Hearts on August 1. For more information on the group visit www.theroadhammers.com
Anyone else now suddenly have the urge to go play in the MUD?
