Father Figure by George Michael.

Posted on the 28 February 2012 by Melodicwisdom

Okay, so I’m not really a fan of this song but on February 27, 1988 it went to #1 on Billboard. Why does that matter? Well, that’s my birthday and it seems perfect for today’s entry.

Father Figure was released in January of 1988 from Michael’s first solo album called Faith. It went to #11 in the UK, which was the first time one of his songs failed to make the top 10 in his home country. It was at #1 for two weeks in the US. In addition, it made #2 in Canada, Ireland, and the Netherlands.

There’s debate surrounding the song’s meaning and I couldn’t find an official statement from Michael either. Many people believe it’s about a man who is in love with an underage girl.

What do you think?
