At the Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva, Switzerland on November 12th this year one witnessed the gleam and fiery brilliance of a pear shape 14.82 carat vivacious orange diamond, which was touted to be the “world’s largest fancy diamond”. Pure orange diamonds are unusual, said the auction house and also that it is more common to find orange diamonds with secondary colors. These radiant orange diamonds, also referred to as “Fire diamonds” by the well-known gemologists Edwin Streeter in his book “The Great Diamonds of the World” (1882), are said to be exceptionally rare in natural world. This sparkling beauty fetched a colossal sum of $35.5 million at the auction and set a record of being one of the largest orange diamond ever sold in its category. The extraordinary fancy surpassed its pre-sale estimate of $21 million as reported by the Christie’s. According to the reports of Gemological Institute of America (GIA), who had graded this diamond, stated that this vivid fancy orange rock was graded as VS1 clarity and classified as an IA type.
