What I’m going let you in on is that you need to start now for that season, don’t wait. But, there’s a catch. Before you start this seasonal shopping spring, do your research. There are many stores that still have the previous season’s fall and winter lines on sale both in their stores and on the web. Through these sales, you’ll spend a quarter of the price on the necessary fall pieces that you just can’t live without. Determine which stores have the BEST QUALITY before deciding on a purchase. If you know full well that a store’s clothing wears and tears easily and the dollar factor is a fraction less than the price of the store whose product holds us ten times better, go for quality over quantity every time. The price might save you money in the beginning but in the long run, the item itself is going to cost much more when you have to pay to fix the piece or worse, pay for a replacement because it wore a hole in the sleeve after a week’s worth of wear. While shopping, only purchase the things that you can’t stop thinking about. And by that, I mean the things that you keep toying with over and over again in your head about all of the fantastic ways you can wear the piece, etc. This method will actually help you from making impulse purchases. It’s so easy to walk into a store and see fifteen things that have similar colors and make your eyes go wide with “the impulse shopper eyes.” Those fifteen things end up on your next credit card bill, and for the life of you, you cannot remember what was so special about the products and actually, why you thought they were the best thing since sliced bread in the first place. By being able to remember a product, the detailing, the sensation of the way it felt, or even the way it gleamed in your online shopping cart; you help yourself to establish boundaries with your shopping persona. Before you start your actual fall shopping, it’s key that you see what you have from last season and pick over what you “couldn’t live without.” See which pieces in your treasure trove can be layered, what accessories are appropriate for the season, etc… Which fabrics are going to keep you warm? If you live in a warmer place, which fabrics will keep you cool and allow your body to breathe? Key questions like these are what help our fall wardrobes to be the best they can be (they also help you to determine what can go away for the fall/winter season and what should stay in your seasonal closet.) Once you’ve mulled over your own clothing, determined what you have, and determined what you can’t live without based off of these steps, you’re ready for your fall shopping!
