Louise Goffin is more then just a singer. She is a songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist performer. She has shown her talents in various projects including Carol King’s holiday record. Along with working with Carol on her holiday record they worked together on the theme song to the hit WB/CW show “Gilmore Girls” in a song called “Where You Lead”.
With having such a busy life she still manages to direct and edit video on her laptop between developing new artist, recording her own new music, performing live and most of all being with her family. I am glad she was able to take time to sit down with us.
Are there any new project you are working on? If so what are they and when will they be released?
Just this last week, a single I produced for Carole King was released. It’s called “I Believe In Loving You” and it was written by her and the late and great Hal David, who collaborated most famously with Burt Bacharach. In the next month, January Rose, a new artist I’ve been developing and producing, is releasing her debut single “A Trip To The Moon”.
With summer coming around the corner a lot of artist go on tour. Is there a tour in the future for you? If so what places are you going to be performing in?
This week I’m in New York City with my music partner Billy Harvey rehearsing for a show at Rockwood Music Hall. Our duo, A Fine Surprise, will also play June 20th in San Diego at The Griffin, and July 25th at Hotel Utah in San Francisco. In between I’m writing songs, collaborating most of the time, and going to the Steelbridge Songfest in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, to write and perform.
What is your favorite song or album you have worked on so far and why?
My Dreamworks solo record “Sometimes A Circle” because I was allowed to indulge my quirky and creative side by Lenny Waronker. He signed me based on the songs I’d already demoed, and didn’t want to change what he liked, which is a rare occurrence. The only not surprising part about it is that it happened only because there’s only one Lenny and he’s golden.
Also it goes without saying that I loved making “A Holiday Carole”. The journey of that record was an amazing one, and though I love all of it, I have my favorite cuts on it. But mostly I loved making it because of the rediscovery of a large extended family of musicians and recording engineers who are not only stellar human beings but at the top of their game at what they do.
Definitely in front of it with the record button on.
Besides music what else do you like to do on your free time when you are not working?
Reading, writing, contemplating life, cooking, walking in nature, exercising – I’ve always enjoyed some aspect of martial arts. I’ve done some public speaking, facilitating workshops on songwriting, or finding one’s voice as an artist.
Are there any artist that you want to work with and why?
What excites me is the creative chemistry between myself and whom I’m working with – and the possibilities that come out of that. As for who that might be, the unknown is too vast and mysterious for me to answer. I’d have to work with them and then tell you.
