Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage 2004 Review - 270

Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage 2004 is next up in the EW SiBV lineup we’re running through this week on TWJ. I have 2 different bottles from 2 very closely related barrels (the other is #268), but I won’t be posting both this week. I thought about it and decided to kick it aside for a later date and put something else into the lineup for Bourbon Heritage Month.

Tomorrow we’ll be doing a 2005 bottle so we can complete the picture and get a sense of the last 3 years of Evan Williams Vintages. Though, as a reminder, because these are single barrels unless you get the same barrels I do our experiences are going to be different. Which is also what makes SiB bottlings so much fun.

Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage 2004 Review

EYE
Dark amber

NOSE
Rich dark fruit, caramel, cinnamon heavy baking spice, vanilla wafer, graham crackers, toasted nuts and a solid wooden flooring. It’s dense, heavy and has a fantastic overall character to it.

PALATE
Dark fruit, caramel, wood, toasted corn, vanilla, a whole rack of spices with nutty overtones and biscuity undertones. A richer bit of dark sweets kicks up toward the end and pushes the complexity of this whiskey up a notch.

FINISH
Caramel, wood, dark fruit, dusty corn and a bit of citrus on a long lingering fade.

BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Great balance, full body and a heavy syrupy texture.

OVERALL
Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage 2004, Barrel 270, is a tasty bourbon with a lot to offer in the aroma and flavor departments. Overall there is a warm full quality and has a solid bourbon character. A great representation of Evan Williams.

SCORE: 88/100
