Since time immemorial prose, music and literature were considered the embodiment of love and commitment. But the most intense visual representation is the ‘Eternity Band’. Though its origins dates back to 2000 BC, the initial citing of eternity band was as early as the Ancient Egyptian culture. The band was worn on the ring finger of the left hand with the belief the finger contained the vein of love connected directly with the heart. This tradition has been carried on to the present generation and the eternity band is worn on the same finger along with the wedding band.
An eternity band is made of the similar precious metal as of the wedding band be it gold or platinum. The band can be further enhanced with use of diamonds completely or partially covering the eternity band. Present times have colored gemstones gaining popularity over diamonds. Either the colored gemstones are inter-mixed with diamonds or are used alone to be engraved on the eternity band. Often the incorporated gemstones are birthstones of the wearer. Irrespective of the type of stones used, eternity bands are classified into three categories: Full Eternity Band, Half Eternity Band, or the Trilogy Eternity Band.
Full Eternity Band
A full eternity band as the name suggest is a band of precious metals – gold or platinum, fully encircled with diamonds or colored gemstones. The beauty of a full eternity band is unmatched but comes with its own set of flaws. The diamond count and required custom fit makes such eternity band a pricey option. Also with the inclusion of diamonds completely across the path of the band, makes resizing very difficult if ever required.
Half Eternity Band
Half eternity band is an elegant option at less expensive price compared to full eternity band. Such bands consist of diamonds or gems covering only half of the band. Except for the value, half eternity band has an added advantage of ease of resizing and customization and is more comfortable to wear compared to its counterpart.
Trilogy Ring
The Trilogy band or Three Stone Rings is the most recent version of an eternity band consisting of three stones. This idealistic version has gained popularity owing to the fact that the three stones represent the past, the present and the future of a relation. Eternity bands are the best suited gifts for anniversary or the birth of the first child. The latter event is an ideal opportunity to present trilogy eternity band as childbirth represents the couple’s past, present and their expectation for the future.
Men’s Eternity Rings
Yet another upcoming trend in eternity band is that made for men. Though traditionally eternity bands are gifted to women by their husbands, but the modern days have witnessed a rise in gifting these bands as anniversary presents to even husbands. The men’s bands are generally sleek and classy with it being a plain band made of either gold, platinum, titanium or palladium.
