English 101 with Al Yankovic: Word Crimes

Posted on the 15 July 2014 by Hendrik Pape @soundcheckblg

As we discussed yesterday Weird Al Yankovic released his 14th, and possibly final, album, Mandatory Fun today.  To coincide with the release Yankovic also released his 2nd of 8 videos to go with the new album.

Yankovic’s second video is for the song “Word Crimes” which parodies Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and turning the rather controversial song into a an English lesson by exploiting the common Word Crimes that we see more and more frequently these days.  Thicke and Pharrell Williams helped co-write the song with Yankovic and can be heard performing background vocals as well.

If English class would be this much fun perhaps we would have less “Word Crimes”, something for Yankovic to think about after he retires from his recording career (which, for the record, we hope isn’t anytime soon).  This song is so catchy it’s the newest #SONGSTUCKINMYHEAD!
