The Girl Next Door star Elisha Cuthbert is set to become the wife next door following her engagement to hockey player Dion Phaneuf. Phaneuf, captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, proposed to Elisha, a native of Alberta, Canada, with a massive diamond ring while at Prince Edward Island. Few details have emerged about the engagement ring but Cuthbert was reported to be showing it off at a surprise celebration dinner, where family and female waitstaff remarked over its size.
The ring made its first public appearance on the hand of the blonde beauty at the US Open, where she and her new fiancee watched Andy Murray defeat Thomas Berdych. Phaneuf, who made $6.5 million during the 2012 season, obviously used a good portion of that salary for Elisha’s ring, which is large enough to be spotted virtually from space. One has to wonder how she manages to clap with her hand so encumbered.

The Happy Endings actress and her new engagement ring made an appearance on Good Morning America to promote the upcoming third season of the show and gush about her recent betrothal to Amy Robach. For the happy couple’s sake we hope that her real-life wedding doesn’t mimic the show’s first season, which saw Cuthbert’s character leave her fiancee at the altar. Not likely, of course, as the starlet took to twitter to announce her joy at the engagement: “Happily, happily, happily, happily engaged! This has been the most amazing weekend ever!”
