Let’s not be blind anymore. 8 million of dead in the Great Lakes region is too far ENOUGH.
This will be as usual at Piccadilly Circus in London from 11:00 to 12:00. It will be a Saturday. It could be for people living closely an opportunity to also visit Central London and spend time supporting an unselfish and worthy cause.
Honoring, remembering and getting justice for the millions of Congolese, Rwandans, Burundians and Ugandans who died victims of the Ugandan president Joweri Museveni and his Rwandan president counterpart Paul Kagame are part of the objectives of the event. It will be in its third edition. The last ones were held on September 14th and October 19th.
As you probably notice it has become a monthly event. For over more than fourteen years, over 8 millions of Africans have been murdered with the complicity of Western governments and multinationals with direct involvement of the mentioned dictators.
The majority of the victims were women, children and the elderly. More than 1 million women, girls and even men have been systematically raped in those countries as a strategy of war.
These crimes should not be concealed as if they have never existed. The dead or raped were our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, grandmothers, grandfathers, grandsons, granddaughters, nephews, nieces, and brothers in law, sisters in law, mothers in laws, fathers in law, etc.
Imagine if one of your relatives featured on the above list. What does that make you feel?
Without justice, the survivors could know the same fate as this is still happening to those surviving for example in Rwanda or the Democratic Republic of Congo.
With the recent developments of military defeat of the main negative force in the Eastern Congo, people might wrongly assume that war has ended, but nothing could be far more away from the truth or reality on the ground.
Criminals responsible of past and present atrocities are still comfortably standing in office or doing business in the capitals of Rwanda, Uganda and DRC. Unless their responsibilities are persistently hammered to get justice for their millions of victims, they will never be prosecuted.
Dying in the Great Lakes started in London, but other cities around the world are showing some interest in this campaign of raising awareness about a human tragedy in the face of which no logical and wholehearted being should remain indifferent.
In London the third edition is coming. There will be a fourth, fifth… [Edition] and we will be soon in Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, and France, Germany, Sweden, US, and New Zealand.
