Drake just announced via twitter his upcoming album, Nothing Was The Same out September 17th. Recently he released a couple fairly aggressive tracks including “Started From the Bottom” and “5am in Toronto” where he aired out some frustrations. On “The Motion” featuring frequent SBTRKT collaborator Sampha, Drake shares a characteristically subdued beat with short stabs of an old-school R&B bass line with some reverse piano. He’s still got some frustrations but it seems he’s a little more at peace with things by the very Drake-like opening line, “I don’t have a fuck to give.” Surprises are steadily dealt throughout the song building to a beat drop at the end with a complete reharmonization of the previous material.
