Raven Queen for the win! Mattel’s Ever After High Thronecoming line is out in full swing and here’s a review of my favorite of the five dolls, Raven Queen. She has something, I think, that her companion dolls (Apple White, Blondie Lockes and Briar Beauty) don’t have. It could be my obsession with Once Upon a Time and that Raven has always reminded me of the stylish Evil Queen somehow, but seriously? This doll has style!

Raven has a slightly complicated hairstyle. Her hair is in a partial up-do with a bouffant sort of style that goes into a ponytail. From the front, it looks really cool. The back is a little disappointing. Hair seems to be all over the place and a little messy.

I like the plum and black combo they chose for this particular Raven, though. It works really well with the outfit, which we’ll get to shortly.

Raven’s face is very, very pretty. I think it’s the prettiest Raven face we’ve seen yet. Raven’s purple eyes are surrounded with purple eye shadow. Her lips are, also, a cool shade of purple. She has minimal blush on her face. Because the dolls are going to a dance, they all have fun accents on their faces. Raven has silvery white gems painted on her face. I would have really liked to see these as 3D objects, but alas, Mattel decided to go the painted route. These elements look the best on Raven.

She has on two different earrings. I really like the earring that covers her entire ear. Very neat!

In terms of outfits, I love Raven’s strapless thronecoming gown. It’s a statement piece, for sure! Her dress has a nice layered look to it with various elements of black, purple and silver. It is a long gown, which is a nice change from the super short dresses we’ve seen in the past. I wish Mattel had thought to put some tape or something near Raven’s bust to help hold the strapless gown up, as mine has quickly started dropping. During the photoshoot, I had to re-adjust it a lot.

The plastic elements play a huge role in Raven’s outfit, especially the steel colored collar. It looks really neat in person, let me tell you!

Besides her collar, she has molded black hands that are ornamented with ‘steel’ colored wrist cuffs..

Because the dress is so long, Raven’s shoes are missed. To me, they’re not terribly exciting, when compared to the outfit. However, they are nice shoes.

Joints have never really been a problem with the Ever After High line and Raven is no exception. Her joints work really well. The plastic collar does restrict her shoulder movements a little, but with a bit of playing around, you can work them into good poses.

Raven comes with her her stand, an ill-fitting masquerade mask and a purse. The purse is a very small prop that doesn’t open on. Unfortunately, I have found that her mask, too, is disappointing. It doesn’t fit her face well, however cool it looks.

Raven is one pretty doll and may be my favorite Ever After High doll. She’s definitely in my top three (with the original Maddie and Hunter). As far as cons, the biggest issue is the outfit slipping. However, I can deal with that. To me, Raven deserves to win thronecoming queen, because she brings with her a really neat vibe and style.
