Do I Need My Partners Permission To Have An Abortion?
While it is always advisable that you receive support and have someone who you trust to talk too when deciding to terminate a pregnancy, you do not need your partner’s permission to have an abortion. You don’t need anyone’s permission; it is entirely your decision.
The Supreme Court has ruled that requiring a spouse’s consent in order to have an abortion is unconstitutional.
Your partner has no legal right to be informed of your choice. Some partners may want to be involved in this decision but it is entirely up to you if you tell them or involve them.
Nobody needs to know about your abortion; doctors, nurses and other health workers who may be involved in the procedure cannot disclose information about you without your consent.
