DJCAD Degree Show 2014: Illustration

By Jollygoodstudio @JollyGoodStudio
My trip around the DJCAD degree show continued with a highly anticipated trip to see what the Illustration students had to offer. As usual there was a wealth of talent on offer and the Illustration shop made me wish there was a wealth of funds in my bank account. Unfortunately funds were limited but I still managed to treat myself to a little something.
Like the other sections of the show I found myself marveling at the range of work on display and especially impressed with the imaginative techniques and uses of illustration.

Ceri Morrice
Laura McCartney used illustration to create intricate and striking tattoos featuring historical women. Her work was super detailed, creating a narrative of each woman's life.
Mixing illustration and ceramics Iida Lanki's work took a playful look at history. I loved her humorous take on well known pieces, like her china dogs which came with their own 'Certificate of Adultery'.
Joshua Barr used illustration to make to make an interesting public awareness campaign. He mixed traditional pub advertising with a very current issue in a way that made me pay attention and look twice.
I loved Maddy Burrows' screenprints depicting scenes from Fitcher's Bird. The one pictured was particularly striking with it's bright colours against the dark background.
And, speaking of striking, Ceri Morrice's use of UV ink was a sight to behold. I enjoyed the way her space was set up and how the above illustration was set up like you were looking into an aquarium.

Tori Pickford
But it was Tori Pickford who got my hand in my purse. I purchased this awesome tooth necklace and would have bought one of her bags of ceramic skulls if I hadn't been too late.
