DIY Silhouette Art Using Thrift Store Frames
Everything old is new again! Ain’t it the truth? I have been noticing lots of silhouette pics popping up in gallery wall displays all over Pinterest and my favorite style magazines. Some people are using vintage silhouettes from their parents or even grandparents. And some are using new ones of their children. The black and white silhouette pics are classics and I’m not sure they will ever go out of style. I’ve had a stack of vintage picture frames (Ok, so some of them aren’t that vintage) piling up in my workshop waiting for a project. I decided to make quick and easy silhouette art with a thrift store frame makeover.
Pictures frame are so easy to find at a thrift store and they are super cheap. You just need to have a little vision for what they could be. The artwork in these 2 frames was some kind of country clutter sayings from the 80′s. (Wait, didn’t I just say everything old is new again? Maybe that doesn’t go yet for country clutter from the 80′s!)
I took the glass out of the frames and gave them a fresh coat of paint using Sweet Pickins Milk Paint in Flour Sack.
Flour Sack is the whitest white of the line and I wanted there to be a good contrast between the black of the silhouette and the frames.
Next I needed the silhouette. A quick google search yields lots of free results. Everything from silhouettes of children to elephants. Anything you are looking for seems to be there. I printed mine out on card stock and fit them on the frames. And that’s it. Instant art!
