DIY: Repurposed Side Table

By Mamakbest @mamakbest

Using the structural design and interior decorating (furniture placement), I’ve created a one bedroom apartment with eight different areas.  I used the couch to divide the living space into 2 separate areas.  There is a hallway leading to the bathroom that has been one of the last areas to be completed.

I created a Pinterest board a little over a year ago to begin collecting ideas and inspiration pictures for the hallway. As you can see from the pics pinned on the board, I wanted bold colors (preferably pink), maybe a patterned wallpaper and I would finally have a spot for the vintage brass bar cart I have wanted forever!

This spring I picked up color swatches because it was time for this area to find an identity. Then Sprinklergate happened… and bam… this area got a fresh coat of Martha Stewart Beet paint. I moved the piece of furniture that was here for the last three years and replaced it with a table until I found the coveted vintage bar cart or came up with a better idea… whichever came first! In its previous purpose, the table was covered, hiding the blemishes; luckily after placing the bar ware and liquor bottles on it, you couldn’t see marks.

Late one night, I decided the bar would look better if I spray painted it gold. Recently a friend declared her spray painting addiction: Screen shot 2013-07-08 at 3.39.50 PM I can totally relate. I bought the spray paint for mason jars and couldn’t stop there!

I set up shop by hanging a plastic tablecloth to cover the freshly painted wall and a sheet to cover the newly laid floors. I opened all of my windows and started spraying! Bar Before

Like most spray painting jobs, it didn’t take long to cover the little table and even the table knew it had upgraded! It looked so pretty! Bar After Gold

Complete Look After Bar
My black and white pictures, the top one, a collage my sister made while in fashion school and the second, a Kareem Black photo I was gifted at the Support ACE fundraiser last year. I knew when I received this photo it would be perfect over a bar, considering it is a party scene! The #HelloBrooklyn keepsake is from the first Brooklyn Nets victory over the New York Knicks. It fits in with the color scheme. :) My vintage glasses and pitcher decorate the bar perfectly, complimenting the area with great color.

I love it! Until I find the bar cart that tickles my fancy, this set up will do. Do you have something that could use a spray painting DIY?
