DIY Cough Syrup

When any of us suffer from a cough, we usually tend to buy over the counter cough syrups. But why resort to the chemical versions when we can soothe the cough by natural remedies.

A cough is basically a reaction by the body do to some irritation it make have in the throat. One should be looking for natural ingredients that will soothe and calm the irritable throat.

Here is the recipe for a simple homemade cough syrup that has absolutely no side effects as it is made from ingredients in your own home and will give you the same result as over the counter drugs.

What you need?

  • Honey – 1 Cup
  • Ginger – Half cup grated and peeled ginger
  • Grated Lemon (including rind) –2

How to make it:

  • In a saucepan boil the grated ginger and grated lemon and boil for 5 minutes.
  • Once it boils, let it simmer for at least 5 minutes.
  • Remove from the flame and strain.
  • Mix the honey with the strained ginger lemon solution.
  • Simmer this mixture on a low flame for a few minutes. Do not allow it to boil.
  • Remove from flame and pour into a bottle for use.
  • Consume 2 teaspoon full every two hours.

Honey and lemon are natural substances that boost our immunity and also give us additional vitamins, along with having the anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties that fight away an infection.
