Dillington House Wedding Photographers | Emma & Jon

“Is it normal for someone to have three cameras like that”?

Asked a guest of the father of the Bride (Mark).

” Well yes – there are three ways to take photos.  One way is to use a 50mm lens and you step back or forward to frame the photo.  Another way is to use a telephoto which is a compromise because the quality is not brilliant.

The other way is to be a greedy bastard like Linus, and have three lenses on three bodies”.

I couldn’t have put it any better myself!

Often asked what gear do I use, why this, why that…. Its great to hear a member of the bridal party explain things so perfectly.  Saving me the time, keeping me free do the job I do best – capturing the images.

Our first time out as Dillington House Wedding Photographers, and a day that didn’t disappoint, great people, top venue and a complete blast.

"On our wedding day Linus was a pleasure to have around (greatly impressing our guests and my Dad (an ex-photographer) with his 'diligence' and 'effortlessness'. He really captured the story of our wedding and the photos we will spend the rest of our lives pouring over are so beautiful. Linus listened to everything we wanted and went above and beyond - we cannot thank him or recommend him enough.
He will be the best wedding decision that you make (aside from choosing to get married of course..!).

Thanks so much, the new Mr&Mrs Foulds X"

Talking gear, cameras, pixels and the like is one of my pet hates.  Why do it – where’s the fascination?

Sure good quality equipment helps, but it doesn’t produce the all important moment, the composition.  Thats only something that comes through insight, creativity and listening.

Yes, thats right – listening to the story, their story – the bride, the groom, the family and friends.

Through listening you really hear people, what they are about, who they are, how they see themselves, how they want to be seen, what’s important to them.

The wedding day is a day of exchanging stories, along with celebrating the start of a whole new one.  From the wedding breakfast speech shared openly with all, to the personal exchanges between old friends.

Catching the imagery to illustrate stories both old and new is my reason. To attune to the humour, the emotion, the delivery, the timing, the reaction.

To finely balance listening and observation. With just the right amount of input – reassurance and direction for a few important portraits.

I touched gold on this one – catching a beautiful story.

Check out the photofilm (at the bottom of the post) – Emma & Jon’s wedding day story.  Our journey of listening and observing a story as Dillington House Wedding Photographers.
