My daughter was about 2 years old. Her State Licensed Babysitter was going on vacation for two weeks, so they gave me names of other licensed sitters. I interviewed a few choosing one. Her home was clean. She was in a biracial marriage, which did not bother me.
One day I noticed there were never any toys around and her home was too clean compared to my previous babysitter’s, which was clean but there were toys around from the children playing. I went through my daughter’s toys giving her a big bag of toys. I never seen one out being played with.
In the morning, she would have the parents drop off the children going through her basement entrance. I did not thing much about it because we were required to bring our children’s sleeping bags and pillows.
After work we were to pick the children up at her front door. I day I was later for work dropping my child off later also. The children were awake in the basement sitting on the couches watching television quiet as ever. Some were still sleeping at is was 9 a.m. I looked around not seeing a toy downstairs neither.
One day as I was picking up my child, she did not come running to me. Here she was upstairs with the sitter’s teenage son. The sitter said, “My son really loves your daughter.” I was panicking inside as I was sexually abused by my teenage half-brother. The red flags were going off.
After putting my daughter in her car seat, I asked her questions to see if he did anything to her. She told me he was playing toys with her. I thought, “I never seen any toys even after giving her some and her son has some in his room to play with the children.” So I kept asking my daughter questions, but I am certain nothing happened sexually. I feel he was grooming her, but I thank God for intervening.
It is not normal for a teenage boy to have such an interest in children as I found out from my predator half-brother. Now we know why he was always so eager to babysit us.
So I told work what was happening taking the rest of the time off never taking my daughter back to that sitter.
One day as I was driving to work it came over the radio she was arrested for drugging the children with Valium. I thought, “OMG! That witch most likely drugged my daughter.” She has no idea how lucky she was that she was in jail.
Please be careful who you allow watch your children even licensed providers. In addition, teenagers prey on little children to sexual abuse them also. Not only friends of your older children, but as in my case my predator was my half-brother who was 12 and I was 8.
Always go with your guts instinct as in my case my instincts were correct that something just was not right in that home.
