A volcano, a massacre……… and a Big Foot?

Devolution – the blurb

As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier’s eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined . . . until now.

But the journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town’s bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing – and too earth-shattering in its implications – to be forgotten.

Because if what Kate Holland saw in those days is real, then we must accept the impossible. We must accept that the creature known as Bigfoot walks among us – and that it is a beast of terrible strength and ferocity

Something’s watching you

World War Z is possibly one of my favorite reads so I was excited to lay my hands on Devolution that promised similar vibes. Whereas WWZ was zombies Devolution is Big Foot (or should that be Sasquatch?) Straight off the bat though this felt different. More of a cold case being picked over Matt Wesolowski style. The diary entries (whilst feeling very school homework esq) moved the story along but only hinted at the characters depths. Why was Pal practically mute? What made Kate seek therapy? The broad ranging spectrum covered in WWZ added to the story. Here it got in the way. I didn’t want to know about whether Big Foot was theoretically possible, I wanted to find out what they did after throwing the rocks. I read it quite quickly and I did enjoy it. But against WWZ it doesn’t quite compare.
