Moonshine, white whiskey, call it what you will, stuff like Devil’s Share Moonshine is really just new-make. The stuff that comes right off the still and then goes into the barrel; the raw spirit that later becomes whiskey as we know it today. While it’s rarely ever complex and delicious, it is important.
If what’s coming off the still isn’t very good, then the likelihood of it coming out of the barrel tasting good is quite low. Oak isn’t magical, it can only enhance, deepen and lend new characteristics to what’s already there. So if what’s there is foul then you don’t have much hope of ending up with something tasty… let’s hope Cutwater is starting off on the right foot.

Devilishly drinkable. San Diego may be known for its sunny disposition, but Devil’s Share Moonshine Whiskey is undeniable evidence of a darker, more mischievous side. Crafted using our custom-built Vendome copper hybrid pot/column still, this former bootlegger’s spirit is surprisingly smooth. Sweet and floral with a distinct malty profile and hints of tropical fruit, its higher proof lends a distinct warming character. A welcome presence, by day or night.

Devil’s Share Moonshine Review: OVERALL
Huh… not bad. Kinda dig it actually. It’s not amazing, it’s not complex, but it’s not terrible and while it is pretty much one noted – sweet grain – it’s not a bad note. I’m not saying I’d come home from a long day and reach for a glass of Devil’s Share Moonshine, but I’m saying I wouldn’t be angry if offered a glass at a party and that I’m super happy to include it in the Infinity Barrel Project.
I’m also saying that with a base spirit that’s this easy going and tasty I’m really curious about their aged bourbon. Not curious enough that I want to go out an spend the money to get a whole bottle, but curious enough that if I see it on a bar menu I’ll likely order a glass to see what it’s like. Cutwater… I’m not mad at ya.
