I was strolling around the countryside a Sunday, when I discovered an enchanted place between the rice paddies and the fields - Desana.
L'attrattiva principale di questo sonnacchioso paese vicino alla cittadina di Vercelli, che vive principalmente di attività agricole, è la coltivazione del e il suo castello, un tempo appartenuto ai Savoia.
The main attraction of this sleepy village near the town of Vercelli - that mainly lives with agricultural activities - is the cultivation of the rice and its castle, once belonged to the Savoy.
Desana è molto gradevole nel suo insieme: il centro è una grossa piazza su cui si affacciano la posta, una serie di case rosse con un paio di locali, la chiesa e un bellissimo lastricato. Tutto è raccolto e molto curato.
Desana is very nice - the center is a large square where you can find the post office, a series of red houses with some shops, the church and a beautiful paved. Everything is collected and well organized.
Il castello è l'attrazione principale: la struttura è visitabile con gruppi organizzati, prenotando direttamente con il proprietario, oppure, se si è in numero più ristretto, acquistando uno o più dei prodotti dalla bottega. L'abilità imprenditoriale dei proprietari ha trasformato questa struttura non solo in una attrazione turistica, ma anche in una vera e propria azienda agricola. Il prodotto tipico del luogo è uno ed indiscusso: il riso.
The castle is the main attraction. The structure is visited by the organized groups, booking directly with the owner, or, if you are in smaller number, after having buy one or more of the products from the shop. Mi sono fermata a mangiare nel ristorante del castello: una sala ampia e dipinta di giallo accoglie il viandante.
Gli antipasti al bancone prevedono una serie di insalate fredde a base di farro e riso.
I have eaten in the restaurant of the castle: a large, painted yellow room welcomes the travelers. The appetizers at the lunch counter have a lot of the cold salads made with the spelt and the rice.
Un sapore più " forte" è dato dal piatto tipico locale: la
panissa.
Nella panissa vercellese troviamo, come ingredienti: riso Carnaroli, fagioli, cipolla, salame, un po' di lardo, del vino rosso (di solito il Barbera)e del grana padano grattugiato.

Approfondendo il discorso su questo prodotto agricolo, mi ha stupito la quantità di tipologie di risotti che esistono.
Ho scoperto che esistono tante tipologie di riso:si passa dal carnaroli, al parboiled all'integrale, all'arborio, al rossiccio riso venere, solo per citarne alcuni.
Ognuno di essi ha una caratteristica differenteed esigenze di cottura specifiche, che assicurano la buona riuscita del risultato finale. Da assaggiare tutti!

I have discovered that many types of rice exist- you can try from Carnaroli, to the parboiled integral, to the arborio, to the reddish black rice-tell some names. Each of them has a different characteristic and cooking requirements specifications which ensure the success of the final result. You have to try all. It's no regret! You have pumper yourself in the life!
