The well-known train manufacturing firm Bombardier, which is based in Derby, has won prestigious gold awards for health and safety for the second year in a row.

Representatives from Bombardier headed to an official ceremony in Birmingham to receive the gold awards on behalf of the company, which were given by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents to recognize companies that do all they can to keep workers safe at sites all around the UK. The first award was for Bombardier’s high standards in health and safety training and practices at its maintenance site in Crewe, whilst the other was for the overall performance of its UK services arm.

The train company attributes much of its success in keeping health and safety standards high to a recent safety campaign. First launched in 2010, the ‘Safety with Attitude – Let’s Just Do It’ campaign has won an Internal Communications Excellence award at the Rail Business Awards. Bombardier also claims that workplace accidents have dropped by 40 per cent, serious injuries by 50 per cent and working days lost through accidents by 70 per cent since the campaign first launched.
