Andy Murray’s hopes of winning a third Queens title ahead of Wimbledon are under threat after Argentine ace, Juan Martin del Potro, revealed that he is down to play the illustrious event this summer.

Murray, currently ranked third in the world, is vying to go one step further than last year at Wimbledon where he lost in the final to Roger Federer. The Scot has since gone on to win Olympic gold and the US Open, meaning he is now a real favorite in the Betfair Wimbledon betting to claim a historic title.

He has used Queens as a great platform to prepare for Wimbledon over the past few years, winning the tournament in 2009 and 2011. With the weight of expectations on his shoulders again Murray must perform at the AEGON Championships in order to set himself for Wimbledon.

Unfortunately for the Scot, del Potro’s presence will make that task a lot tougher than first imagined. Del Potro is on top form at the moment after reaching the final of Indian Wells and, on course to that showdown, he scalped Murray 6-7 6-3 6-1 in the quarters.

The Argentine was solid that day, winning 99 points to 84 and 77% of his first serves. Murray, meanwhile, made eight double faults and failed to convert either of his two break points – critical moments in the match that could come back to haunt him when the pair meet again.

With del Potro and fellow ATP top-10 opponent Tomas Berdych set to play Queens, Murray will struggle to win the title for a third time. He may feel at home during the British grass season but so do his main rivals and fans of tennis events should be careful not to back the 25-year-old too early with stiff competition to face.
