The Birthday Boys: Thomas Gentille + Peter Skubic, Gallery Loupe, Montclair, NJ. http://galleryloupe.com/ They celebrate their birthdays on the same day – August 11 and they share their celebrity status as important contemporary jewelry artists who have done pioneering work – one in the United States and one in Europe. Their work can be found in museum and private collections throughout the world. Gallery Loupe will present a first-ever joint exhibition of the work of Thomas Gentille and Peter Skubic from October 9-30, 2012 with the exhibition aptly titled, The Birthday Boys. The exhibition will include films created by both Gentille and Skubic. Both artists will be present for the opening night reception on Saturday evening, Oct. 13th. In addition, Gentille and Skubic will speak at Brooklyn Metal Works on Sunday, October 21, at 4pm.Wendell Castle: Wandering Forms-Works from 1959-1979, The Aldrich Museum, Ridgefield, CT. October 20, 2012 - February 24, 2012. Curated by Evan Snyderman of R 20th Century and Alyson Baker of The Aldrich Museum. The first major exhibition of Wendell Castle's work in over twenty years and the only one to focus exclusively on the period when his inimitable style of ground-breaking sculptural furniture was defined. The iconic designer's exploration of form and function blurred the boundaries between art, craft, and design, forever changing the way we look at furniture. The exhibition coincides with Castle's eightieth birthday and will be accompanied by a publication of his work. The Aldrich will host a public opening featuring a panel discussion, book signing, docent-led tours, and family activities on Saturday, October 20, 2-5 pm. Architecture and Design Film Festival, October 18-21, 2012. Now in its fourth season, ADFF has become the premier festival for showcasing films about architecture and design. The Model Alliance: Sara Ziff and Susan Scafadi, Wednesday, October 17, 6 pm, Katie Murphy Amphitheatre, Fred P. Pomerantz Center, first floor. Join model Sara Ziff and legal scholar Susan Scafidi for a discussion of the Model Alliance, the nonprofit advocacy group for American fashion models founded by Ziff in 2011. The Model Alliance works with the Fashion Law Institute, established by Scafidi at Fordham University, to promote fair labor standards for models in the U.S. Ziff will also discuss her work as a producer on the film Picture Me, which chronicles models’ experiences in the fashion industry. Susan Scafidi is the first educator to offer a course in fashion law, and she has been internationally recognized for her leadership in the field.Hal Rubenstein in conversation with Valerie Steele, Saturday, October 27, 11:30 am, Morris W. and Fannie B.
