Decking – the Grand Finale

By Chooksandroots @chooksandroots

It seems like an age away that we had the ‘brilliant’ idea of recycling my Lovely Fit Chap’s decking and reusing it at my house… but after weeks of sweat and toil, we made it!

We were debating whether to use the panels, but went for it in the end, and after a mad few weekends of sawing, staining (and to be fair, a little bit of swearing!) the new patio area is open and ready for action.

It’s an amazing feeling to know that every piece of my new deck has been recycled. Even the old base AND the leftover topsoil reappeared in my garden as raised beds – and are now happily hosting beans, courgettes, beetroots, leeks and cabbages. The only outlay was £40 for some wood for part of the base; I didn’t have quite enough on the wood pile…

Here’s the story in pictures

The strawberry planters are actually reused pallets that I made last year.

So, after a job well done, we are feeling slightly chuffed with ourselves. I think a glass of something fizzy is on the cards later, to celebrate!

CHEERS
