Come and celebrate the start of the holiday season at Monterey Park’s annual tree lighting and winter music event…

5:30 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2012
Monterey Park City Hall
320 West Newmark Avenue,
Monterey Park, CA 91754
Free admission.

The family friendly event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at the city hall front lawn as choirs and children welcome Santa as he arrives with the help of the fire department to light the tree.

Next, participants are invited to join a group of carolers to journey across the street to the farmers’ market and serenade visitors with popular holiday songs.

To top off the event, attendees will be invited into the city hall council chamber for the annual Holiday Sing — an evening of entertainment featuring live performances by local student groups and an audience sing-along. Previous year’s entertainers have included choirs from Rice Elementary, Garvey Intermediate and Mark Keppel High School. Video of the 2011 Holiday Sing event is available on the city’s YouTube page at http://youtu.be/0o_1T39KLVk or search YouTube for MontParkTV.

Light refreshments will be offered. Support of the event is provided by the Monterey Park Sister Cities Commission and the Eastside Optimists. For more information, please contact the Recreation and Community Services Department at 626-307-1388 or visit the city website at www.ci.monterey-park.ca.us.
