At least 20 people lost their lives after a multi-story under construction building collapsed in Tanzanian Capital Dar-es-Salaam on Friday. 17 bodies have been recovered from the rubble while rescue workers are still looking for more people trapped inside. Fateful building was located at the confluence of Indira Gandhi Street and Morogoro Road in a busy commercial zone.
Victims included construction workers working on same building, street beggars, nearby playing children and passerby. Many students of a nearby Muslim seminary are also feared dead in the tragedy.
Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete visited the site of collapsed building twice and ordered immediate arrest of building owners and contractors. Later on it was reported that four people from owners and contractors have surrendered before place. This is third major incident of a high rise building collapse in Dar-es-Salam.
